My unforgettable meeting with Kim Myung Soo

It took me quite a while to finish writing this blog because I still can’t find the right words to explain how I truly felt that night. To be very honest, I never expected this kind of blessing. All I wanted was just to see Kim Myung Soo and be able to touch his hand.

Pre-Fanmeet Story

I was still a bit hyped during mid-2019 because I just finished Kim Myung Soo’s latest drama, “Angel’s Last Mission: Love”.It was the first Kim Myung Soo drama that I watched. I am not a fan of Infinite, although I know them. I was never a fan of Kim Myung Soo, too, because I felt like he was too overrated and too handsome that a lot of people already like him.

But somehow, I ate everything I said in the past. I fell in love with Kim Myung Soo with that drama. Few months later, CDM Entertainment just announced that Kim Myung Soo is having his fan meeting in Manila this 2020. And since I am a new fan, I wanted to see him badly.

Ticketing day was the same day as DAY6 Gravity in Manila. Good thing, CDM offered help to those who cannot buy on TicketNet outlets and online. So, they were the one who helped me buy my ticket. Since I was not that prepared with his fan meeting, I just bought the cheapest ticket. The important thing is that all tickets have hitouch. So, I’ll still get to meet him closely.

A few weeks later, a friend of mine from Myung Soo’s local fanbase messaged me if I know someone who can edit a video. I don’t know what entered my mind, but I volunteered to do their video -something that stressed me a lot during the Holiday vacation. Not because I don’t know how to make a video, but because I was too pressured that I must make a beautiful video.

After all the crashing of my laptop programs, crying at night because it took hours before it finishes rendering, everything went well. It was approved by the management and somehow, I felt a bit relieved. Now, I can just focus on attending the fan meeting.

Days before the fan meeting, I was contacted by CDM Entertainment asking if I could be their photographer for the fan meeting. And without any hesitation, I said yes. And that caused another stress on my part. First reason – I can’t be a fan that night. Second reason – I won’t get to hitouch Kim Myung Soo. Third reason – this will be my first Korean event as a main photographer, so it means, I really need to do a good job.

D-DAY

I arrived at Cubao around 12:30PM. I went to Novotel first to attend Kim Myung Soo’s press conference under Philippine Concerts. While waiting for Kim Myung Soo, the feels are already rising to my heart. I am excited to see him. A few minutes later, he arrived. And girl, I was really amazed with his visuals. His skin tone was different from other Korean artists I met. I can’t really stop smiling ever since he entered.

After the press conference, I decided to meet my friends and have lunch with them at Kko Kko, just near New Frontier Theater. And guess what, Kim Myung Soo just passed by not only once, but twice. He has bodyguards with him but he keeps on roaming around the place.

Few hours later, the fans started entering the venue and the fan meeting started. I will no longer write what happened during the fan meet since I wasn't focusing that much. I was just taking photos.

There's just one rant that I wanted to post here. A lot of people say that looking young is a good thing. But in my case, no. It's not a good thing. The bodyguards, the Koreans, and a lot of people question my credibility. It's as if I am not worthy of being a photographer because I look young, and I look like a fan. If that will be the mindset of people, then I will no longer be hired.

But good thing, CDM Entertainment doesn't look at the physical appearance but on the quality of work. That's why I appreciate them so much.

Anyway, during the fan project VCR. I was a bit nervous. But Myungsoo suddenly sang to the background music. And my heart melted. He even said that it was a beautiful video. To be honest, I was not satisfied with what I did. I mean, I know I can do more if only I have enough resources. But I'm happy that he liked it and it was successful.

A fan-made video was also shown on screen that showed Pinoy fans’ love for him. Fans also held banners that read “The wait is over. I am coming to you now,” a project of fan bases Infinite PH-Beyond Infinite PH, Kim Myungsoo Philippines and MyungYeol Philippines. He described it as “beautiful video. Thank you for the love you’ve shown me.” - Manila Bulletin

Okay. Fast forward to the end of the fan meeting. Because Taal Volcano erupted, the fan benefits were a bit fast than the usual because we have to make sure that everybody can go home safe. At the end of all the photo opportunity, I GOT A SELFIE WITH KIM MYUNG SOO.

Super thankful to Ate Mina and CDM Entertainment for giving me the opportunity to be their official photographer tonight. Back story: After ALL the photo ops, kuya wilson (the other official photog) and I suddenly joked. "Us? Us?" Jokingly asking Kim Myungsoo for a photo with us. Then he went near us and said "come on come on"

I WASN'T PREPARED THAT'S WHY THE PHOTO WAS BLURREEEEDD AAAAAAHHHHHHH BUT WHO CARES OUR FACES ARE STILL VISIBLE!

Before the start of the fan meeting, I was sad because I won't get to have hitouch with Kim Myungsoo. But I ended up having a photo with him. Oh and not to mention, he was actually hugging me that time. Complete package. I don't know what to feel that time. I am happy. Very happy. But also, I feel a little guilt since I am just a new fan and I don't know if I deserve this.

The things that I never experienced with some of my favorite artists, I got to experience with Kim Myung Soo. And I am more than thankful for that. It will truly be an unforgettable moment and I will treasure it forever!

KDRAMA Review: Psychopath Diary

I've been really wanting to watch another Yoon Shi Yoon comedy-drama series. Ever since 2D1N had its hiatus, I barely see updates from Yoon Shi Yoon. Although he had two dramas in 2019, I didn't watch his "Nokdu Flower" since I am not much of a sageuk fan. So, I'm really looking forward to watch Psychopath Diary.

And just like what I said in my other reviews, I always watch dramas that are already done so that I no longer need to wait for the next episode.

ABOUT THE DRAMA

Title: Psychopath Diary (싸이코패스 다이어리)

Episodes: 16 episodes (around 1 and a half hour per episode)

Airing Period: November 20, 2019 - January 9, 2020

Main Characters:

Yoon Shi Yoon as Yoon Dong Shik

Jung In Sun as Shim Bo Kyung

Park Sung Hoon as Seo In Woo

Plot: This drama is all about a guy named Dong Shik who works at a brokerage company and has a timid personality. He is the type of person who keeps on saying sorry. One night, when he decided to kill himself, he witnessed a murder and accidentally got the murderer's diary. He ran away from the crime scene, unfortunately, was hit by a police car (drove by Bo Kyung), and suffered from an amnesia. Because he has the diary, he thought that he was the one who wrote it and he considered himself as the serial killer.

Things I like about Psychopath Diary

Relatable lines

This was probably the reason why I immediately got hooked with Shi Yoon's character in this drama. He is a kind person, too kind that he can't easily say no even if he wanted to. I suddenly thought about myself. Well, I can't say that I am kind (though a lot of people say it) but I am also the type of person who can't easily say no. The things that I wanted to say, Dong Shik just said it in one go.

Sometimes, I also feel lost. I don't know where to go. And I just simply want to disappear. In this drama, Dong Shik feels lost because his mind is telling him that what he knows is not really who he is. He thinks that he is a serial killer because of the diary but he is just a kind office man.

No love story involved

With this type of drama, the first thing that I feared of before watching is having a love story included in the plot. Like the main fell in love with each other only to found out that they were lying... some sort of that kind of plot. I can still remember the drama "Remember: The War of Son (2015) starring Park Min Young and Yoo Seung Ho. I like the plot of that story but suddenly they included the love story between them which made me hated it.

For me, if the love story is not really needed, then why add? That's what I liked in this drama. They just stayed with their plot.

The other characters - Family and Friends

When Dong Shik confesses to the world that he is the serial killer (wherein he is really not), his family still knows the real Dong Shik. They didn't even doubt him and continue to believe that he is a good man.

At first, I really hated them. They are the type of people who only thinks of themselves and wanted other people to take blame. Yes, they have a reason for doing it. But that doesn't mean they really have to do it. But what made me like them? Is the fact that they still believed that Dong Shik is innocent. They knew the truth and eventually helped.

The writers were really good in showing how his family and friends got mad at Dong Shik and also took advantage of him. And at the end, they showed their love for him.

Yoon Shi Yoon x Heo Sung Tae Tandem

The two of them have worked together in the series "Your Honor". That's why I am also happy to see them again here. This time, they are a duo and not rivals. The funny thing is that, Heo Sung Tae was able to remove the serious mood in him and became a funny one in this drama.

The Whole Plot

When I first read the plot of this drama, I immediately got hooked with it. A guy with amnesia thought he was a serial killer... I find it really cool and unique. Although this is not the kind of hard-mystery thriller type of drama, I still enjoyed it. The drama was able to show both the dark and bright sides of life.

Not only that, I also liked how they made Dong Shik be a great person because of the films that he has watched. It only shows that watching films and dramas isn't a bad thing. We can learn a lot from these.

Conclusion & Lesson

You might have wondered why I didn't put any "Things I didn't like" in this drama. It's just because I didn't find anything that I didn't like. I liked EVERYTHING about this drama. Although I can say that this drama isn't the type of drama that I will really remember forever, it still gave me a good time.

If you really want to have a good laugh, I highly suggest that you watch this drama. It's really a fun one.

And before I end this blog, this is probably the best line that I got in this drama. Which is probably the thing that I really needed.

Just like how Dong Shik never gave up in clearing his name, let us also not give up with life. There may be times where we feel that life isn't worth living, or there are just times were we wanted to give up, but, you, reading this right now means you still haven't given up, and I also thank you for it.

Life will be hard, I'm telling you, but let's continue to move forward. Continue to be kind to people and blessings will come to you.

KDRAMA Review: When The Camellia Blooms

When The Camellia Blooms was the first K-Drama that I finished this 2020, although it was released in 2019. As much as possible, I try not to watch on-going series because I don't want to wait for the next episode.

The main reason why I wanted to watch this is because of Kang Ha Neul. It was his first drama after he got discharged from the military. I've been really following Kang Ha Neul since To the Beautiful You. And I fell in love with him even more during Scarlet Heart.

Aside from that, I have been receiving a lot of news that this drama is really good. In fact, it has high ratings. So I decided to watch it. NOTE: This review may contain spoiler. So if you don't want to be spoiled, don't read it and just watch it immediately.

ABOUT THE DRAMA

Title: When The Camellia Blooms (동백꽃 필 무렵)

Episodes: 20 episodes (around 1 hour each)

The drama is all about a single mom named Dongbaek who raised her son in a province called Ongsan. She runs a bar-restaurant named Camellia which caused a lot of people to spread rumors about her. All her life, she was told that she has an unlucky fate. Her mother left her which made her an orphan. She has no husband but has a child. And a serial killer targets to kill her since she was there when her friend was killed. But despite all of that, she gained new strength from Yong Shik, a police man.

Things I liked about When The Camellia Blooms

Kang Ha Neul's great acting

When I say great acting, I mean that the artist makes me forget about their past characters. While I was watching this series, Kang Ha Neul became a total stranger for me. It's as if I'm trying to deal with another person who looks like someone I know. He was so good at portraying someone who is from the province, someone who acts tough but has a weak heart for love, and someone who will do anything to save people.

He is fun to watch in this drama. All the serious stuff I felt before with Scarlet Heart, I forgot all of them when I watched him played his role as Yong Shik. He doesn't care if he will look crazy and ugly in front of the camera as long as he portrays his role well.

The Ending Twist

Although I already have someone in mind on who "Joker" was, the drama made me feel like who I'm thinking was is wrong. In fact, I even doubted for a couple of times. But eventually, the I was right on who I thought Joker was.

During the time when Dongbaek installed a CCTV at her restaurant, I already got the hint on who Joker was. And all these time, I was right.

How they portray a mother's love

At the start, I also got mad at Dongbaek's mother for leaving her. If I were also abandoned and grew up as an orphan, I will also hate my mother. But as the drama progresses, there are a lot of stories we don't know. There are a lot of things our mothers are willing to go just to save our lives.

In this part, Dongbaek's mom left her when she was 7 years old. And after years, she came back to Dongbaek pretending that she has Dementia. On that latter part, Dongbaek found out that her mom is suffering with a kidney failure and needed a transplant. This made Dongbaek mad at her again.

But what Dongbaek doesn't know is that she didn't return because she's gonna ask Dongbaek a favor. She returned so that before she die, Dongbaek will receive her insurance. It was also shown here the reason why she left Dongbaek, how she went back to get her again, and how she was always thinking of Dongbaek.

Living as a solo mom with no money and decent job, Dongbaek's mom got afraid that she wouldn't be able to suffice Dongbaek's needs. She may have made a wrong decision, she may have been weak, but the important thing is, she never forget her daughter and silently looking at her.

The Ahjumma Squad

At the start of the series, the ahjumma squad was portrayed as the typical people who gossips a lot and hate people who they think are above them. That's why they made Dongbaek feel that she doesn't belong in the place.

But like earlier, there are a lot of stories we do not know. In the end, they helped Dongbaek from Joker. They made sure that Joker won't get to murder Dongbaek. Although they were really jealous of Dongbaek from the start, they still love her. They just don't know how to show it because it's not their character to show a soft side.

They were actually the people who also made this drama a success and fun one.

Things I somehow disliked with When The Camellia Blooms

Dragging Scenes

There were a lot of times where I skipped some scenes because I got bored. To be very honest, I got bored from the start. The only reason why I continued watching it (even if I badly wanted to drop it) is because I wanted to know who Joker was and why he wanted to kill Dongbaek. I also do not know why but I feel like the casts during those scenes were overreacting or something.

Conclusion & Lessons

I was actually expecting a lot from this drama since it became the talk of the town. It has high ratings. But I was a bit disappointed. Maybe because this drama isn't just my type. I can still say that it is a good drama. If you want to watch a chill drama, you can watch this.

But this drama taught me to not judge people based on the decisions they have made. There are a lot of things we don't know. There are a lot of things that is happening inside their minds and hearts. Another lesson that I learned here is that, even if people are against us, or there are people who hates us, life goes on. Find something that will inspire us to move forward. In this drama, Dongbaek chooses Pilgu (her son) as her inspiration to move forward.

Like what I have mentioned earlier, mom's love will always be there. It's one of the best lessons I have learned here. They may have made a bad decision, or a thing that we do not understand, but there are reasons. If it hurts us, it will hurt them more. Moms will also be willing to sacrifice their lives for their children.

When The Camellia Blooms might not be a drama that I will remember forever, but it is truly one of the dramas that will give you a lot of life lessons.

ONE ITs Still Fighting For X1 Even After Disbandment News

Probably one of the most shocking and heartbreaking news that KPOP fans, especially ONE ITs (X1's fandom name), received early 2020 was X1's disbandment. X1 is a South Korean boy group formed from MNET's Produce X 101. Debuting in August 2019, X1 proved that they are more than just a rookie group.

Even for a short promotion time, X1 has been rising up. They have placed No. 1 for a couple of times on different music shows. Not only that, they also have high ranks on Billboard's Artist 100, Social 50, World Albums and World Digital Song Sales chart. Their debut album Quantum Leap became the fourth-best-selling album in Korea.

However, due to the fabricating controversy of MNET's Produce X 101, the members' individual companies were not able to reach an agreement and decided to just disband the group. This left a lot of fans heartbroken, surprised, and upset.

A few minutes after the disbandment news broke, ONE ITs have created different hashtags like #BeWithX1 #FightforX1, etc. which trended worldwide. Aside from that, they also conducted different protest events like LED trucks and media ads.

Even after days since X1's sudden disbandment, the fans never left and continued to fight for X1. In fact, global and local fans joined forces and recently launched an ad at COEX Crown Media which was shown for more than 100 times from January 17 to January 19, 2020.

This protest was made so that the fans' voices be heard by CJ E&M, the media, and the members' agencies. ONE ITs are requesting for a new X1 - rebooting the group, it doesn't matter if they change their name and have a new agency. Not only that, they are also asking for a compensation for all the members for the damages that were done.

These recent happenings surely show how far the fans are willing to go for X1. It is truly tiring and devastating to experience such events but the fans continued to look toward their goal on protecting X1's wings and making sure they fly high.

Unboxing: X1 Official Membership Kit

January 17, 2020, I received my X1 Official Membership Kit which I ordered last July 29, 2019. It took a long time, right? Well, since it was just released and produced at a later date, it was also shipped a bit late. And you know, there were even some issues that happened with X1.

But anyway, I am not gonna talk about that here. What I'm going to talk about is how the X1 Official Membership Kit looks like and how I was able to order it even if I am an international fan. It is actually my first time joining this kind of membership thing, so I also had a hard time figuring things out.

THE MEMBERSHIP KIT

This is how to membership kit looks like on the outside. It's a pink box with the words ONE IT and X1, along with the words that X1 describes us fans. In the middle, you can see the blue membership card. In the membership card, your full name, birthday, and ID Number were written at the bottom. It only means that it's really yours.

Once you open the pink box, you can see a rectangular blue tin can. And the words written there where the same as the pink box. Here are the inclusions of the fan kit.

HOW TO BE AN OFFICIAL MEMBER:

Before ordering the membership kit, you need to be part of their fancafe. Most Korean artists uses Daum, while some like JYP Artists have their own JYP Fans. Make sure to check which platform your favorite artist is using. For this blog, I'll use Daum since that's where X1's fancafe is.

1. Sign-up to Daum

I will be creating a separate post about this hopefully soon, but for the mean time, I found a good tutorial.

2. Register at your favorite artist's fancafe.

In my case, this is the link of the fancafe: https://cafe.daum.net/X1official/. Make sure to check the link of the fancafe on the SNS accounts of your favorite artists. Unfortunately, since the disbandment news of X1, I can no longer access the fancafe. I don't know if they have closed it already because I wasn't updated with anything recently.

3. Register on Interpark

Some actually had a hard time registering on Interpark. But a good news for International fans, there is a Global Interpark which is in English. So signing up won't be a problem.

NOTE: Make sure that your name in Interpark is the same name in Daum so you won't have any problems with leveling up to the fancafe. When creating a password in Interpark, make sure that it contains a number and a special character (example '$', '#', '~'). Maximum is 15 characters.

4. Buy the official membership

Once everything is all set, visit the Interpark Tickets and look for the membership recruitment. You can see a BUY TICKET button there. Just follow the instructions and put your details.

In my case, I used a direct shipping from South Korea to the Philippines. So instead of going to a Korean address (which some fans do to have a cheaper shipping fee), I decided to just have it directly shipped to me.

In terms of payments, they usually accept credit cards. There will be 2 options - the Korean and Foreign Credit Card. Make sure to choose the foreign credit card, unless your card came from Korea.

5. And you're done! Just wait for it to arrive to you.

FAQs:

1. How much does the membership cost?

In my case, the overall total amount that I paid is 58,000 KRW which is around 2,600PHP. The actual price of the membership kit is 30,000KRW and the shipping fee costs 28,000 KRW.

2. What if I have no credit card?

Upon checking some people's tweets about their experiences, debit cards are accepted as long as they have Mastercard or Visa on it. So I guess, online cards like Paymaya may work? I am not so sure with Paymaya though. But, debit cards with Mastercard or Visa will work.

If you don't have any cards, you need to borrow from your parents or friends.

3. How long do I have to wait for me to receive my kit?

It actually depends on the company. Some have faster production of kits, while some takes a longer time. But usually it will really take half a year from the start of your registration to shipping to your house. In my case, I waited for about 6 months.

Movie Review: Miracle in Cell No. 7 PH Adaptation

When I first heard that "Miracle in Cell No. 7" will have a PH adaptation, I was really excited to watch it because it's one of my favorite movies. When I also saw the casts of the PH adaptation, I became even more excited because the actors are really the great PH actors. But even if I was excited, I was also a bit hesitant. The original version was so good and I don't know how the PH adaptation can be equal to it.

Miracle in Cell No. 7 PH adaptation is an MMFF 2019 entry. It was released last December 25, 2019. I was not able to watch it on the first day. I got to watch it last January 4, 2020 at the Mall of Asia. Ticket price costs P320.

Trivia about the "Miracle in Cell No. 7"

Before I start to share my thoughts about the PH adaptation, I would like to share some trivia both about the original film and the adaptation.

1. The original South Korean film "Miracle in Cell No. 7" is the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time in South Korea! No big stars and just a limited budget but still made it to the top due to the strong word of mouth.

2. The original film along with its casts have won a lot of awards such as - Most Popular Film in the 34th Blue Dragon Film Awards, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Child Actress, and more.

3. There were other adaptations of the original film. The first one was a Hindi remake. Although there were some copyright issues that happened here. Another one was a Turkey remake.

4. Bella Padilla was not the first choice to play the role of older Yesha. It was actually Nadine Lustre. Unfortunately, she has to give it up in order for her to have a rest since she already has a lot of projects earlier in 2019.

5. The original actor, Ryu Seung Yong, invited the Filipinos to watch this adaptation. Not only that, the director and the producer, Director Lee Hwan Kung and producer Kim Min Ki went to the Philippines to personally watch the adaptation.

My Honest Thoughts about the PH Adaptation

1. Aga's acting is a bit inconsistent

Maybe because I have watched the original so I keep on comparing Aga with the original actor.But there were times I can feel that he has a mental disorder, but there were also times where I felt like he is a normal person. Aga is a good actor but it may really be a challenge for him to act like someone who has a mental disorder all throughout the film.

2. Xia Vigor is the best choice

I can't actually think of other child actress that could portray this role. I started having teary eyes when her father was captured by the police and she was shouting "Tatay" all the way. This girl is really a talented one. She made me smile and cry while watching the movie.

3. The other casts (Cell No. 7 Squad, Arcilla, Bella Padilla) were great

With these actors, I never doubted them even for once. I know that they will show great acting in this adaptation. They were able to portray well the characters given to them. Special mention to JC Santos, who suddenly became one of my favorite Pinoy actors now. He made us laugh in the most simplest way. I can't actually remember his character from the Korean movie but his character in the PH adaptation is my most memorable character.

Throughout the whole movie, I didn't feel that they were acting. I felt that they were the real people behind those characters. They were able to cry in just a glimpse of an eye. Kudos to these actors.

4. They got all the main points of the original movie

Everything in the original film was seen in this adaptation. From the new life of the squad, the sailormoon, to the air balloon scene. Everything. Although I wished that they could have added more Filipino touch.

But the plus point in this film was how they ended it. The ending wasn't in the original film which made it more emotional. Well, even the director and writer of the original film praised this adaptation for it.

5. There were some flaws

Well, not all movies are perfect. Everything has a flaw. It's just that only few people can see those flaws. In this adaptation, the first flaw that I saw was during the death of the child victim. I find it funny that a perfectly placed hollow blocks will fall out of place with a child's hand. I can't even move a single block with two hands.

The next flaw is the CGIs. How I wish there was a better CGI here from the accident of the policeman's son to the air balloon. I didn't cry at those moments, instead, I laughed. How I wish it would have been better. I know PH can do better than this if given the proper equipment and budget.

Over-all Comment

Although there were some flaws in the film itself, it is still a movie worth watching (especially if you haven't watched the original version). It may not have surpassed the original film, but it is still a good one. The reason why I saw a lot of flaws is that because I keep on comparing it to the original. If only I didn't watch the original, I could've cried much harder.

The movie made me cry and laugh at the same time. The whole casts and crew did a really great job with this adaptation. I hope that this film will open the eyes of every Filipino about the injustice system this world has. And I hope we will have the guts to fight against it.
