K-Movie Review: Inseparable Bros (2019)

December 24, 2019

If you want to laugh and cry at the same time, Inseparable Bros (2019) is definitely a must watch film. I was able to watch this film when I was on my way home from my South Korea trip. Thanks to Korean Air for having this movie on the screen of my seat. Ever since its trailer was released, I got hooked to it. I am not a fan of any of the casts, but I found the story interesting.

About Inseparable Bros

Inseparable Bros is a story of two person – Se Ha and Dong Goo - who have been living together for 20 years. Although they are not brothers by blood, they have been treating each other as one. Both have their own disabilities. Se Ha is a smart person, but he can’t move his body while Dong Goo is quite the other way around. Dong Goo is mentally disabled but is physically well. One day, the orphanage that they are staying needs to be demolished so the two of them will be separated. They made a way by letting Dong Goo join the swimming competition. Unfortunately, Dong Goo can’t finish the race because he remembers his mom who left him before.

Things I like about the Film

It points out that those who are physically and/or mentally disabled can still do things.

Like how to plot is, both of them are disabled but for 20 years, they were able to survive through the help of each other. Not only that, they also showed that those who are disabled given the proper care is not a hindrance in the workplace.

The casts’ acting was so good

Like what I have mentioned in the earlier part of this blog, I was never a fan of the casts. Although, I know Kwang Soo and Esom. They can make you laugh and cry easily. Kwang Soo really did a great job portraying a mentally disabled person. It’s as if the spirit of Dong Goo just possessed him. Meanwhile, Ha Kyun showed that even if he cannot move in the movie, his eyes will tell all the emotions.

Other people can love you even if you’re not blood-related

All my life, I have been wishing to have a brother or a sister because I believe they will be the only person who will support me (aside from my parents). But this movie proved me that you can find love through your friends. There will be some people who can love you more than your own family.

“Family is bound together by blood, but we can become a family if we love and help each other. This is the main idea of my movie.” Director Yook Sang-Hyo said.

Although the film may be a bit common or dragging at times, I can still consider this a good one because it made me cry and laugh. I’m giving it an 8.5/10 overall score. I hope I can find more movies like this. How about you, what are your thoughts in this film?
