More than 100 shows dubbed in Tagalog and Bisaya only at VIU

VIU, a pan-regional OTT video streaming service from a Hong Kong-based company PCCW, has over 100 Asian dramas that were dubbed in Tagalog and Bisaya. To celebrate this milestone, they will be having a "Tagdub" (Tagalog-dubbed) inspired event this February 18-19, 2023 at the SM Megamall Activity Center.

Mr. Vinchi Sy-Quia, the Assistant General Manager of Viu Philippines, mentioned that this is just the start of more dubbed contents. "Last November 2020, there were only few dubbed K-Dramas in Viu. But now, there are over 100! We will continue to add more dubbed contents. Not only shows from Korea but also from China, Thailand, and other Asian countries will be dubbed in Tagalog, Bisaya, and hopefully, other local languages. There's a different feeling when you hear your favorite artists speaking your own language. It's more enjoyable and heartfelt. Our standard is captured in our tagline, 'Swak sa dubbing, swak sa feels.' May it be in Tagalog or Bisaya, our dubbed shows will definitely touch the hearts and feelings of the Filipino viewers."

To enjoy this more, there will be a free-event Viu Village at the SM Megamall Activity Center this February 18-19. This is open to everyone. Be a voice actor in the Tagdub booth, flex your skills in matching drama posters, take photos in the photo booth, and have a chance to win prizes from interactive games and raffle draws.

And since February is the month of hearts, Viu is campaigning the dubbed love stories like "Hotel Del Lun," "18 Again," "Reply 1988," "Encounter," "She Was Pretty," "The World of the Married Couple," "Dr. Romantic," "The Last EMpress," and also Viu Originals like "Doom At Your Service" and "River Where The Moon Rises." There are also series dubbed in Bisaya such as "Descendants of the Sun," and "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho." Meanwhile, "True Beauty," which is a populr Taglog dub show, will also be released in Bisaya this 2023.

The Korean wave or much known as Hallyu has really been trending nowadays. In whatever form it takes - KPOP, KDrama, K-Beauty, K-Fashion, and K-Food - we can't deny the fact that Hallyu now became a part of our daily lives. But how did it really all started? How big this trend is now? How did it impact our culture? To answer our questions, ABS-CBN Books has launched Hello Hallyu which is a fan book all about the Korean wave written by Ms. Aya Villareal who has been a long time KPOP and KDrama fan and now brings Korean acts in the country through Fanlive.

Kang Daniel finds true colors on No. 1 K-Pop album, Cyan

MANILA, Philippines – Kang Daniel had a massive breakthrough last year with the release of his debut EP, Color on Me, which peaked at No. 1 in Korea and entered the Oricon albums chart in Japan at number 23.

After a successful tour in six cities across Asia, including Singapore, Bangkok, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Seoul, the Korean pop sensation returns with a highly anticipated follow-up EP called Cyan, released by Konnect Entertainment and distributed by Sony Music Korea.

As part of the three-part project, Color, Kang Daniel’s latest release reveals a more confident musical direction that, according to Forbes, “has an understated sense of pop sophistication to it.”

It also marks his personal journey to find his own true colors before the fans’ eyes, an attempt to unmask his story of dreams, passion and struggle as an artist navigating the global music scene.

Shortly after it debuted on iTunes, the K-pop idol’s new EP hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Albums charts in nine countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Turkey, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapore, and the Philippines. The mini-album also made a splash in Russia and Japan, where it reached the top 10.

Lead single “2U” is produced by Chancellor, a Korean-American singer-songwriter and producer whose notable work for A Pink, SISTAR, Lee-hi, and Girl’s Day earned him numerous chart-topping hits in Asia.

The track’s music video, which arrived on March 24, features a simple but infectious choreography that goes well with its laid-back pop sound.

Other songs in the mini-album offer a refreshingly cool vibe that fits the summertime theme: “Adulthood,” is a witty take on adult’s wishes to stay young and free, while “Jealous” evokes the feelings of people waiting for the warm spring sun to come during the cold winter. “Interview” shows the best of Kang Daniel’s vocal performance, with its chill R&B beats running smoothly against groovy bass, jazzy piano lines, and minimalist synths. Final track “TOUCHIN” seamlessly blends a variety of music genres without sacrificing its immediacy and catchiness.

Spring Films expands its horizons with Filipino-Korean co-production“Sunshine Family”

Manila, 8 May 2019 – For Spring Films, the studio that brought you the “Kimmy Dora” trilogy and “Kita Kita,” going big is the only way to go.

As part of its 10th-anniversary celebration, the independent film studio is pushing itself to new heights with a monumental partnership with Korean studio FILM LINE Pictures Productions LTD. for the Filipino-Korean co-production “Sunshine Family.”

Shot entirely in Seoul and Yangpyeong County, “Sunshine Family” is a comedy-drama that tells the story of Don and Sonya Mapalad (Nonie and Shamaine Buencamino), and their children Shine (Sue Ramirez) and Max (“Your Face Sounds Familiar” fan-favorite Marco Masa). A partly-dysfunctional family living in Korea for the past five years, the family’s plans of going back home to the Philippines get challenged after Don is involved in a hit-and-run accident.

It’s long been said that in times of trouble, it is to your family that you run back to. In this country of strangers, can the Mapalads learn to rely on each other and overcome this one final hurdle as a family?

Directed by Kim Tai Sik, the acclaimed director of the 2007 international film festival-favorite “Driving with my Wife’s Lover,” “Sunshine Family” is a proud merging of the best of Filipino and Korean cultures. Also starring in “Sunshine Family” as the couple’s eldest Shine is one of the Philippines’ most promising stars, Sue Ramirez. Beyond her talent, Ramirez is known for authenticity and her ability to balance sweetness and strength. She was handpicked by the Korean Tourism Organization to headline the film as she has been serving as a South Korean honorary tourism ambassador since 2016.

Also worth noting is that, opposite Ramirez, playing her leading man is KPop idol Shinwoo of the boyband Blanc 7.

“Sunshine Family” is based on the award-winning 1992 Japanese film, “Hit-and-Run Family.” The film will hit Philippines theaters nationwide on June 5, 2019.
