More than just a room, this is where Woozi received his first music training. It’s the place where he formed his first band, and learned to play instruments like the guitar and clarinet.

Honestly, when I visited, I wasn’t expecting to be allowed downstairs anymore. Recently, the owners decided to stop showing the basement to fans after an unfortunate incident during the Hoshi x Woozi Warning Fancon in Busan. But that day, since it was just me and my friends visiting quietly, the owner kindly brought us down and even told us stories about Woozi.

He shared how Woozi started making music and even funny stories — like how when Woozi comes back to Busan, he wears these totally “ahjussi” (uncle-style) outfits. When kids recognize him and ask, “Are you Woozi?” he jokingly denies it — in full-on Busan accent!

Then came one of the highlights for me, the owner showed us the clarinet that Woozi used back then. He even let us hold it! But I couldn’t bring myself to do it… it felt too precious. I just stared at it in awe, thinking, “This is where it all started.”

If you know me, you really know that I’m not a fan of historical K-dramas. In all my years as a K-drama fangirl, I think I’ve only watched three historical dramas — including this one (or at least that’s what I can remember 😂).

So why did I watch Bon Appétit, Your Majesty (폭군의 셰프)? Simple. It looked funny and interesting — not the usual heavy historical drama. Plus, I’m a huge Yoona fan, so of course, I had to watch it.

And honestly? I didn’t regret it one bit. It’s one of those K-dramas you watch purely for the vibes.

What I Love about The Great Flood

Just like Boss, this film became one of my absolute favorites from BIFF 2025. It checked all the boxes of what I personally look for in a movie: an engaging plot, solid acting, emotional depth, and of course, a strong mother-and-child theme that totally hit me in the heart.

(Note: I’ll try my best to avoid spoilers here, but if you’re super sensitive to even small hints, you might want to stop reading this part.)

Unexpected Storyline

Let me be honest. At first, I thought everything was happening too fast. The opening already gave me tension and mystery, but I wondered if the story would have more to offer. Little did I know, that was just the beginning!

When the real twists started unfolding, I literally mouthed, “Oh my gosh!” inside the cinema. What I thought was the whole story turned out to be just a small piece of a much bigger plot. The more it went on, the more excited I got. I appreciated how clear and easy to follow the storyline was. It didn’t feel like a complicated sci-fi film. You just get pulled right into it.

Solid Acting

The cast may be small, but wow, their performances were powerful.

At first, I judged Anna (Kim Da-mi) as a mother. She seemed cold and distant, and I wondered, “Is she really caring enough for her child?” But as the story unfolded, I realized why she was acting that way. By the end, everything made sense, and my heart softened so much for her character.

Hee-jo (Park Hae-soo) also gave a strong performance. Honestly, there were moments when I wanted to punch him! In Filipino, “Kuhang kuha ang inis ko” (It perfectly captured my annoyance). That’s how good his acting was. He really made me feel strong emotions.

Also, I can’t forget the challenges the cast went through for the underwater scenes. Kim Da-mi shared in an interview that she trained a lot for the swimming parts. Some scenes were so long underwater that they had oxygen tanks ready on standby. She even admitted she wasn’t sure how her facial expressions would look while swimming, but she trusted the director and staff completely. Knowing these behind-the-scenes details made me admire their hard work even more.

The Ending

This is where the header of my review comes in: No flood can exceed a mom’s love.

Anna’s character growth was one of the most touching parts of the film. From the beginning until the end, you can see her transformation. Not just as a survivor, but as a mother who finally understands what her child needs from her. I felt so emotional seeing her journey, and the ending gave me exactly the closure I wanted.

Thoughts about the Visual Effects

I’ll be honest. The visual effects didn’t blow me away. Since this is a disaster movie, a lot of CGI was expected, but sometimes it looked too noticeable and not very realistic. I don’t know the budget, but I felt like they could’ve done a bit more in that department.

Still, the story, acting, and emotions outweighed the technical flaws. At the end of the day, the heart of the movie stayed with me longer than the CGI did.

Overall Thoughts on The Great Flood

⭐ Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐

I loved it and I’ll definitely rewatch it when it drops on Netflix. Out of all the films I watched at the Busan International Film Festival 2025, this one stayed in my mind the most. The mix of disaster, sci-fi, and heartfelt mother-child drama really hit the spot for me.

If you’re a fan of Kim Da-mi or Park Hae-soo, or if you just love survival films with deep emotions, this is a must-watch.

Perfect Runtime

At just 99 minutes, the pacing of Boss was spot on. With short-form videos taking over our lives, my attention span has definitely been shrinking. But this movie didn’t drag at all. The story was tight, engaging, and managed to cover everything it needed to without overstaying its welcome.

Amazing Cast Chemistry

If you’ve been following my past Korean movie and drama reviews, you already know how much I fangirl over good cast chemistry. For me, a film isn’t just about one actor giving a great performance. It’s about how the whole cast works together. Even if one actor shines, if the rest don’t click, the movie just doesn’t feel complete.

But in Boss (보스), the cast chemistry was on another level. Jo Woo-jin, Jung Kyung-ho, Park Ji-hwan, and the rest of the team blended so well that it honestly felt like they had been friends for years. I don’t know if they were super close before filming, but their teamwork on screen made every scene flow naturally.

Everything felt so real. It didn’t look like a scripted performance. It looked like genuine people caught in a hilarious situation. That’s what made this Korean action comedy film so much more enjoyable for me.

A Unique Storyline

Most gangster films focus on fighting for power or becoming the leader. Boss flips that idea on its head. The characters are fighting because they don’t want to be the boss. This ironic and refreshing twist gave the film a unique flavor. The comedy never felt forced; it flowed naturally from the absurd situations the characters found themselves in.

For this review, I won't be writing a "What didn't work for me" section mainly because there is nothing to write. ㅋㅋ

My BIFF Guest Visit Experience

One of the highlights of this experience was not only watching Boss during the 30th Busan International Film Festival but also seeing the cast in person (except for Jung Kyung-ho). They were actually sitting just a row behind me, so they got to hear the audience’s laughter firsthand.

After the screening, there was a special hi-bye session with the cast. To top it off, I even received a gift from Lee Kyu-hyung! It was such a memorable and fun fan experience. It made my festival experience unforgettable.

Boss is the kind of movie I’d happily rewatch. It’s light, funny, and stress-relieving (exactly the type of film I could also show my parents and be sure they’d enjoy). I laughed from beginning to end, and it completely lifted my mood.

If you’re looking for a Korean action comedy film that balances humor, irony, and great performances, Boss is the real boss of 2025.

As of writing, Boss hasn’t been officially released yet. It will hit theaters in South Korea on October 3, 2025, just in time for the Chuseok holidays. If you’re in Korea during that time, don’t miss it.

What I love about No Other Choice

Visually Stunning and Cinematic

Every frame of No Other Choice looked really beautiful, almost like it was carefully designed. The colors, lighting, and camera movements all worked together to match the feeling of each scene. From wide shots that showed the setting to close-up shots that captured the characters’ emotions, everything felt meaningful and added to the story.

Watching it in IMAX made the experience even better because the details stood out more and made me feel part of the film. In some ways, it reminded me of Parasite, where every shot had a purpose and helped tell the story.

A Star-Studded Cast

This is definitely a star-studded film. I recognized almost all the cast members because I have seen them in other films or dramas before, which made it even more exciting to watch.

One of the biggest surprises for me was Son Ye-jin. I saw a side of her that I hadn’t seen in other works, and I couldn’t stop thinking, “Wow, she really is an amazing actress.” There were scenes that I never could have imagined her performing, and she pulled them off so naturally.

The cast also had great chemistry with each other. Even though some of the characters were very complicated or difficult, it didn’t feel like the actors were “acting.” Everything felt natural and believable, which made the story even more engaging. Watching them interact felt effortless, and it really helped me get drawn into the world of the film.

A Perfect Blend of Black Comedy

While watching the film, I kept thinking, “This is definitely the classic Park Chan-wook style.” I have seen some of his other films before, and I can clearly recognize his unique way of telling a story. In No Other Choice, everything felt very balanced. The drama, comedy, suspense, and unexpected twists all worked together perfectly. It never felt too heavy or too light.

Another reason I enjoyed this film is that it gave me inspiration for my own short film. The way Park Chan-wook explored moral ambiguity and showed how people make difficult choices really stood out to me. Watching how he handled complex characters and unexpected situations gave me new ideas for my own work. For anyone who enjoys Park Chan-wook films, or who is interested in stories that mix drama, suspense, and dark humor, this movie is a great example of his signature style.

Unexpected Ending

As I mentioned before, I am currently working on a short film, and the story of No Other Choice follows a similar theme about moral ambiguity and the difficult choices people make. However, the ending of this film was completely different from what I had imagined for my own story. I did not expect it to end the way it did, and that surprise actually made the film more memorable for me.

It was interesting to see how Park Chan-wook handled the conclusion, and it gave me a new perspective on how a story about tough decisions can be told. For anyone interested in films that explore moral dilemmas with unexpected twists, this movie is a great example.

What didn't work for me

Was there really no other choice?

The main question I had throughout the movie was whether there really was no other choice for the lead character. I understand that people can become desperate to achieve something they want, or even to protect the people they love, but his decision to murder his rivals felt a bit extreme and hard to believe. For me, it didn’t feel deep or urgent enough to justify such a violent action.

I think I would have understood it more if the film showed that his family was in real danger or had no way to survive, like if they didn’t even have food. Since that wasn’t clear, the reason behind his choice felt a little weak. If the motivation had been stronger or more convincing, I believe I would have enjoyed the film more and maybe even given it a higher rating.

A little too slow

Personally, I found that the pacing of the film dragged in some parts. There were several scenes that felt slow to me, and at times, it even made me feel a little sleepy. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for a film that wasn’t fast-paced.

That said, I know that other viewers might have appreciated the slower tempo, as it gave more time to focus on the details, the characters, and the atmosphere. While the pacing didn’t fully work for me, I can see why some people might enjoy it and feel that it added depth to the story.

Overall Thoughts on No Other Choice

While No Other Choice looks amazing and has strong performances from its famous cast, the main story didn’t feel very new or exciting to me. Even so, the film is still fun to watch and worth seeing at least once, especially for fans of Park Chan-wook, Korean black comedies, or anyone who enjoys stylish and well-made films.

What really makes this movie stand out is the cinematography and the cast chemistry. Every shot is carefully made, the colors and lighting set the mood, and the camera work makes you feel like you are part of the story. The actors, including Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, and the rest of the cast, act very naturally. Even though their characters are complicated, it didn’t feel like they were acting.

I also felt very lucky to see the cast in person during their Guest Visit at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, which made the experience even more special.

In the end, while No Other Choice may not have a completely new story, it is still a beautiful film with great acting. Fans of Park Chan-wook films or Korean cinema will probably enjoy it. It is worth watching for the style, the famous cast, and the director’s signature touches.

One of My Most Memorable Events at BIFF 2025

During the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), I had the chance to watch different film screenings with guest visits, open talks, outdoor stage greetings, and forums. Out of all those events, Creative Asia: Presented by Netflix & BIFF stands out as one of the most memorable.

It wasn’t just the lineup of world-class speakers that made it special, but also the diversity of perspectives they brought to the stage. From award-winning directors to innovative production designers, each session gave me fresh insights that I know will stay with me long after the festival.

Session Information

The Creative Asia forum became one of the most memorable events for me. Held on September 20, 2025 at the DSU-KIT Centum Campus Convention Hall, the forum ran from 13:00 to 16:30 and brought together world-renowned filmmakers, directors, and production designers.

The first session, “Masters of Imagination,” featured Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water) and Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan, Hellbound). Both talked about how fantasy and monsters are not just visuals but symbols of human emotions and fears.

Next, Yui Miyamori, production designer of Last Samurai Standing, shared her vision in “Ready to Break the Mold of Period Filmmaking?” She encouraged filmmakers to approach historical films with fresh ideas that can resonate with today’s viewers.

The third session, “Shifting the Lens: Directing for Film vs Series Format,” was led by Leste Chen, known for his work in Chinese cinema and series such as The Resurrected. He discussed how directing for film differs from streaming series, and how both formats demand unique approaches to storytelling.

Finally, Maggie Kang, co-director of KPop Demon Hunters, gave audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the making of her film. Mixing K-pop with supernatural adventure, she highlighted how Asian stories are being reimagined for a global audience.

So, honestly, it's really hard to make a short film. But hearing Leste Chen talk about his experience, it made me think of exploring more.

Maggie Kang

Though I couldn’t stay for her entire session, I was struck by how Maggie’s Korean heritage and love for K-pop inspired KPop Demon Hunters. She showed that stories rooted in cultural authenticity can still resonate with global audiences, especially when paired with bold creativity.

Reflections as a Film Student in Korea

Attending Creative Asia at BIFF 2025 was more than just listening to experts. It was a reminder of why I chose to study film. Each speaker showed that authenticity and imagination are not opposites but complementary forces.

As a film student at Dongseo University in Busan, I found myself reflecting on how my own journey as an international student can inspire my projects. Just as Guillermo del Toro draws from his imagination and Yeon Sang-ho channels societal fears, I can weave my experiences into stories that are both personal and universal.
