Opening an Art Account

May 27, 2020

I have been thinking of this for quite some time. Although I am a Multimedia Arts student, I am not yet confident with my drawing skills maybe because I keep on comparing myself with other artists. But as I was scrolling my SNS accounts during this whole quarantine period, I realized that I should just do what I want to do. With the support of my friends, I finally opened my Art Account (and I hope I can maintain this).

Things to Think/Do Before Opening an Art Account

1. Your brand name (or username)

This is probably the hardest step for me because I lack creativity whenever it comes to choosing a username. The reason why you need to think of a brand name because it gives the people a memorable impression. Some people may just use their name for their brand name but I believe it's more creative to add something more to it.

In my case, I chose the username haebit_art (해빛아트). It is composed of two words - haebit which is a Korean word that means sunshine, and art. The reason why I chose this username is that I want my art to be like a sunshine for me, a new start.

2. Choose which platform you'll use

There are a lot of places where you can upload your artworks. The most famous ones of course are Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. But there are also other places where you can upload your artworks like Tumblr, Artstation, etc.

As of the moment, I have just opened my account on Instagram and Twitter. I am planning to open a Facebook page and a Tumblr account too but I'll still plan it first.

3. Compile all your previous artworks

In this way, you can have a little throwback on your new account, unless you only want to put new arts on it. The reason why putting your previous works here is to show how much you have grown and improved as an artist. This will also inspire other artists to post their works.

What Can You Expect on my Art Account?

I'm still trying to figure out my own art style so you can see various art styles on my account - both traditional and digital. But of course, you'll see more fan arts of my favorite artists there. And maybe a little inspirational thoughts?

I just hope I can maintain this art account. But just like what a friend said, "You draw because you want to not because other people force you to do it." I won't be active that much but I'll be sharing some stuff that is really close to my heart.
