Fangirl's Pick: Favorite K-Dramas of 2021

December 29, 2021

2021 is definitely filled with amazing K-Dramas. With the rise of different online platforms like Netflix, Viu, iQiyi, WeTV, and more, we definitely got easier access to our favorite shows.

Since I started working full time this year, I wasn't given enough time to watch dramas unlike last year. But probably I have watched more than 15 dramas - Korean and Chinese. So, the list that I'll be sharing to you are from the dramas that I have watched and the dramas that left an impact to me.

Happiness

A small screen comeback of Han Hyo Joo and Park Hyung Sik, Happiness is definitely one of the must-watch of 2021. The amazing chemistry of the two leads and the amazing story plot will make you crave for more. This drama wasn't really a romcom type of drama. In fact, it's an action-romance.

Where to watch this? For Filipino viewers, it's available on Viu, iQiyi, and WeTV.

So I Married The Anti-Fan

This drama was filmed years ago. But because of some broadcasting issues, it was pushed back until iQiyi finally released this drama on their platform. A chill and fun romcom drama about the artist and his anti-fan, hence the name, So I Married the Anti-Fan. Choi Taejoon's and Choi Sooyoung's chemistry here is no joke. In fact, I badly want to ship them but they both are in a healthy relationship.

Of all the dramas that I watched this 2021, So I Married the Anti-Fan is the drama that made me smile all throughout. It's really a chill drama.

Mouse

One of the most mind-blowing K-Dramas of 2021, Mouse. If you want to watch a K-Drama that is crime related with a little science, this is perfect for you. Lee Seung Gi's acting here is also commendable. The plot twist is so insane! But, if you're not a fan of gory series, then it's probably not for you. There are a lot of brutal scenes here. So, better prepare your heart.

Squid Game

My whole timeline was full of Squid Game contents after it was released. It's really one of the most talked about K-Dramas this 2021. The plot was a bit different from the common K-dramas that we get to watch on Netflix. Although it's a bit brutal, it's the reality.

I'm actually looking forward for the next seasons of this drama. According to a news, the director of Squid Game, Hwang Dong Hyuk, and Netflix have been talking about their plans for the series. It was reported that they are discussing for a possible Season 2 and Season 3.

The Uncanny Counter

Although this drama started airing in 2020, it ended around January of 2021 so I can still consider this as part of 2021 K-Dramas. My main reason for watching this is because of Sejeong. I am a fan of Sejeong since IOI days. One of the reasons why I love this drama is because it's a complete package. The actors are very effective. The effects are well-made.

According to some news, there will be a second season of the drama. I hope that the actors will remain the same.

The Witch's Diner

Looking for just a short K-drama? I highly recommend The Witch's Diner. It only has 8 episodes. I think it has a bit of a webdrama form. But the story is so touching and you will learn new lessons. You can watch The Witch's Diner on WeTV.

Bonus:

You Are My Glory

Not a K-Drama but a C-Drama. This drama actually saved me. I was bit in a K-Drama slump but then this drama was released. Another chill drama that will only make you kilig inside. Look at the visuals of the leads! You can watch You Are My Glory on WeTV. Dilraba Dilmurat and Yang Yang are both ambassadors of WeTV.
